Pursue Geology

• With a focus on the study of Earth’s materials, processes, and history, this degree equips students with critical thinking and analytical skills through hands-on lab work and field experiences. 
• Geology majors at Georgia Highlands College should participate in the summer geology trip to Wyoming because it offers a unique, hands-on opportunity to explore diverse geological formations in one of the most geologically significant regions in the U.S. Students can apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings, gain valuable fieldwork experience, and deepen their understanding of geology through direct observation.  
• This program includes a lot of science and math, with advanced classes in Biology, Chemistry, and Calculus. We recommend that students feel confident in their science and math skills before enrolling. 
• These courses will be primarily on-campus, but some core curriculum courses can be completed online. Courses will focus on hands-on learning both in the laboratory and in the field. 
• GHC’s Geology associates degree is a good first step toward a bachelor’s degree in geology or related fields. Careers in geology, research positions, university-level teaching, and more specialized roles often require a graduate degree.
