Pursue Secondary Education

  • Secondary Education majors desire to teach and make a positive impact on the lives of high school students. Often inspired by their teachers, these majors want to specialize in how to appropriately teach a content area to older adolescents. As models of lifelong learning, majors work with integrity and an open mind to keep growing in their understanding of content and professionalism.
  • Education majors are trained to see individual students as they are, recognizing the effects of American society on Education, and discovering their fit as educators. Secondary Education majors are required to take three courses in the area they would like to teach in their Field of Study.
  • This degree can be completed fully online or with a mix of on-campus and online courses. Education courses include a field experience component.
  • GHC’s Secondary Education degree is a good first step toward a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education in a non-STEM field (those interested in teaching Math and/or Science should chose GHC’s Middle Grades Education (STEM) degree). Students should anticipate taking professional assessments as they work toward their state-issued teaching license.
