Leadership Development Certificate Program

This is a 60-hour program that when completed, earns a category I certificate with 6.0 CEU’s.

Facilitator: A national presenter, Christina Christenson Brush earned her doctorate in Industrial Relations/Human Resource Management and International Business at Georgia State University.  Tina has over 30 years of consulting and training experience in employee and labor relations and has worked with organizations of all sizes in the profit, non-profit and public sectors in the Midwest and Southeast.  Tina has worked with organizations to develop integrated management development programs, organizational climate assessments, and as a facilitator for organizational change programs.

You may take the modules in any order. All ten modules must be completed within two years of initial enrollment date in order to receive the certificate.

Manage Your Time and Stress. Great leadership begins with self-leadership. You will learn how to:

· Identify real priorities and maintain control over how you use your time

· Understand your natural response to setbacks and learn how to build resilience in yourself and others

· Understand the impact of your emotions under stress and tame “dinosaur” thinking


Communication Skills. Front-line leaders rely on their communication skills to influence people. You will learn to:

· Understand the impact of your natural communication style and learn to adjust it to fit the situation

· Conduct challenging conversations to minimize defensive reactions

· Listen to understand


Build and Enhance Trust. Without trust, you cannot lead effectively. You will learn to:

· Focus on the foundations of trust – the Trust Triangle

· Understand real and perceived threats at work that lead to “dinosaur” thinking and behavior

· Exert influence and align employee motivation with performance goals


Create a Culture of Accountability. Results are achieved when employees own their work and approach it with a problem-solving mindset. You will learn to:

· Empower others through accountability

· Tear down accountability roadblocks

· Stop challenging behaviors before they take hold

· Encourage productive, proactive problem-solving


Harness the Power of Diversity. Successful leaders know how to capitalize on the diversity of their workforce. You will learn to:

· Understand the impact your natural personal style has on others

· Lead to include and leverage strengths

· Understand what drives behavior across generations


High Performance Management. Great leaders focus on how employees think and decide to behave the way they do. You will learn to:

· Identify performance gaps and engage employees in thinking about how to close those gaps

· Coach to ensure sustained desirable performance

· Respond effectively to challenging behaviors and attitudes


Train On-the-Job. Most job learning occurs informally on the job. You will learn to:

· Deliver training so employees learn and retain new skills

· Break down jobs into learnable tasks

· Use the 4-Step Job Instruction Method

· Provide feedback and support as employees develop


Effective Problem Solving. Leaders must utilize all available knowledge and experience to solve problems proactively. You will learn to:

· Build employees’ “problem-solving muscles”

· Encourage a climate of continuous improvement

· Utilize the Six Thinking Hats approach to problem solving and decision making


Persuasion and Influence – Leading With and Without Authority

21st century leaders rely more on persuasion and influence than ever before. You will learn how to: 

· Understand the psychology of persuasion and influence – the conscious and subconscious triggers that influence the decision making process, behaviors and reactions.

· Identify your sources of influence and how you can build your influence potential

· Develop skills to increase your ability to lead without authority Gain commitment through fostering cooperation and collaboration


Leading Change. Leaders must successfully bring their teams through change at unprecedented rates. These periods of upheaval are experienced differently by each employee, but in the end, all employees must successfully adapt to change. You will learn how to:

· Respond effectively to individual reactions to change

· Coach and support employees as they accept and adapt to change

· Communicate under stress
