Group Health Insurance

The University System of Georgia (USG) provides health care insurance coverage to employees on a cost sharing basis. The employees' share is approximately 30% of the total cost; the USG picks up the other 70%. Georgia Highlands College has four health care options for employees: the Board of Regents (BOR) indemnity plan, the BOR Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan, the High Deductible Healthcare Plan (HDHP), and the Blue Choice HMO. The table for employee premiums is below. All premiums for health insurance are automatically tax sheltered.

The Indemnity plan provides the same level of benefits regardless of whether you are seeing a doctor in Rome, in Miami, or in Chicago. The PPO plan differentiates between doctors within its Georgia PPO network and those not in the network; the benefit is substantially higher for medical care provided within the PPO network. The HMO is also a network based plan; the benefits provided within the HMO network are covered almost entirely but no benefits are provided outside of HMO network. The High Deductible Healthcare Plan is eligible for a Health Savings Account. Please see plan booklets and web sites (www.usg.edu for BOR plans and www.bcbsga.com for Blue Choice HMO) for more details.
